Gisborne Guided Deer Hunting and Stay at          Tidal Waters Loglodge, Gisborne, North Island, New Zealand

Guided Hunting from a Beach Loglodge Base
When is the best time for Deer Hunting? The roar is from March through to May. The weather is still warm in Gisborne. Ask us about catching some fish while here!
Rusa - The Rusa roar is from mid-July to end-August. The most elusive deer found in New Zealand bush, occupying the thick scrub on the warmer, sunnier north facing slopes. With long tines, a mature stag will have six points with a main beam rising vertically and two smaller sturdy points protruding. Introduced into NZ in 1907 from New Caledonia.
Red Deer - The Red roar starts in late March and ends late April. A popular trophy head averaging 12 points free range hunting and from 12 to 30 points safari hunting. The red deer is medium sized with round antlers of 10 or more tines. The head is long and quite boney in appearance. The Red Deer was introduced into NZ in the 1850's from Europe.
Fallow Deer - The Fallow roar starts late March and ends late April. The head consists of impressive antlers that can measure up to 70cms in height. A nice coat of deep chesnut colour with white spots in summer changing to dark brown with faded spots in winter. Like to inhabit mixed woodland with dense undergrowth. Introduced into NZ from Europe in the 1850's.
Gisborne Guided Deer Hunting is offered using the Loghouse as a base to track Red, Fallow, Rusa or Samba Deer. Brent Robinson (B.J.), the owner/builder of  Tidal Waters Loglodge Gisborne, North Island, personally does the guiding. Brent is 43 years, renowned for his keen shooting eye (certified 100% long range vision) and well developed tracking skills with safety being a key factor. Brent has been actively hunting since he was eight years old. Gisborne born and bred, he knows the hunting areas and local climate well. While Brent prefers free range hunting, he has access to both free range and safari park hunting grounds, the choice is yours. The Lodge is situated overlooking 5.6kms of unspoilt beach yet only an hour's drive from the hunting grounds. It is the best of all worlds, hunting, fishing and comfortable loghouse accommodation with delicious meals (Anna is a great cook) and a cozy wood fire.
A great package is a hunt or fish or putting out the henake
(for eels). Brent will prepare your chosen catch and
cook it for you for dinner.
A few of our many hunting experiences, hunting deer and pigs. A helicopter is useful to hunt in more remote areas, not for shooting.
