Tidal Waters
Walks Gisborne & Tauranga Nature & Cultural Walks from Tidal Waters

It is no secret New Zealand has an abundance of walks to suit all ages and abilities
From Tidal Waters Loglodge Gisborne, take a walk along the 5.6kms of beach and observe the unique combo of easy walking sand, safe swimming and surf areas and the rocky diving areas. At one end there is a dotterell colony with a White Breasted Shag colony at the other.

For the more adventurous, a good walk takes you along the beach, over the Old Coach track to Tolaga Bay and the start of the Department of Conservation Track to Cook's Cove (Captain Cook's first landing place in New Zealand). From the lookout en route to the Cove is a beautiful view of the Tolaga Bay Wharf (New Zealand's longest man made wharf - 600 metres long). The walk one way takes about 2 hours. A nice end to the day is a coffee or drink at one of the local cafes in Tolaga Bay township. Walk back or if too weary, arrange for us to pick you up.

Other Walks are noted in our Gisborne Info

From Tidal Waters Premier or Tidal Waters Te Puna, Tauranga  take a walk along the Harbour at low tide. There are a wide choice of walks on the hard sand. To the left is a walk around to a small channel with yachts and boats moored with a reserve and boat ramp. Straight across the estuary from the house and around the point takes you into the main Tauranga Harbour - this is a great walk (apart from a narrow shallow muddy channel - it is worth putting up with going through this little strip). Walk for about an hour to arrive at the mouth of the Wairoa River (you may have crossed this by car over the bridge going north towards Tidal Waters). While walking along the harbour you are likely to see yachts and boats cruising past or fishing. Finally, a walk to the right of the property will take you towards a Waka Whare (Maori canoe house) and an observation of the local community work to successfully eradicate mangroves and restore the natural eco balance of the estuary.
